LANSING, Mich.– The India Cultural Society (ICS) is presenting a check to the Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) as part of its 2016 “Feed the Hungry” luncheon. Following a long standing tradition, ICS Board of Directors and members will be serving lunch at Cristo Rey Community Center to those in need. . During the lunch, the ICS member contributions to the Food Bank will be presented by ICS President, Mr. Rajesh Kannan.

WHEN: Monday, December 12th at 11:30 AM

WHERE: Cristo Rey Community Center, 1717 N. High St., Lansing.

WHY: Since 1994, the Indian community within the Greater Lansing area has traditionally raised cash donations to support the needs of the less fortunate in our community. These donations have been presented to the Greater Lansing Food Bank to meet the increased needs of feeding those who might otherwise go hungry during the holiday season. The campaign is run by community volunteers through personal contact, mailings and e-mails. The goal has been to raise at least $20,000 each year during this campaign, and with the generous combined support of the Society membership and the community, the India Cultural Society has often been able to raise donations in excess of its goals during past years. The members of the India Cultural Society would like to appeal to other charitable organizations to continue these efforts by giving a helping hand in raising cash donations to support a local food bank during a time of increased need.

The India Cultural Society (ICS) is a non-profit, secular organization with objectives to promote cultural, social, and educational activities about India’s diverse cultures in the greater Lansing area; to support humanitarian causes; to support other charitable organizations which support ICS objectives and to foster Indian culture among children and adults.

Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) is a non-profit organization that provides emergency food to individuals and families in need in Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee, Clare, Isabella and Gratiot counties. It raises money, food and in-kind contributions to meet emergency food needs; coordinates and supports the work of area food pantries; rescues wholesome excess food that would otherwise go to waste; promotes, encourages and emphasizes self-help programs toward the goal of self-sufficiency; and educates the community on hunger issues.
