Request a plot in a Garden Project-managed garden

For returning gardeners who gardened at one of the above listed gardens in 2023:

  • Please register by April 1 to reserve the same plot that you gardened last year.
  • If you want an additional plot or to change garden locations, you must request these changes on the registration form and you will be placed on the waitlist in those gardens.
  • After April 1, Garden Project will determine plot availability and let you know if we can grant your requests.
  • Returning gardeners who do not register by April 1 risk losing their 2023 plot.

New gardeners:

  • Use the registration link to be placed on a waitlist for the garden of your choice.
  • After returning gardeners have registered for their plots, Garden Project will determine the number of plots that are available to new gardeners.
  • If your requested garden is full, we will help you find a different community garden. Garden Project will notify you about your plot assignment by email no later than mid-May. 

Plot fees

The 2024 cost of a community garden plot is $15 each for most gardens. Roots Garden and the larger plots at Hill Community Garden are $20 each due to their larger size.

Payment is expected at the time of plot assignment.

  • Returning gardeners who are returning to the same plot(s) in the same garden should pay at the time of registration.  
  • Returning gardeners who have additional plot requests should wait to pay for these additional plots until it is confirmed that space is available.  
  • Garden Project is not able to refund plot payments for unapproved additional plots. 
  • New gardeners will be asked to pay for their plot when the plot is assigned.

Registering for a Garden Project-managed community garden also gives you access to Garden Project’s Resource Center, a garden supply hub where you can receive free plants and seeds, borrow tools from our lending library and receive other helpful gardening resources and education.

If you are not gardening in one of the 17 gardens managed by Garden Project, Resource Center registration can be found by clicking “Learn More” below.

Home gardeners

Home gardeners from low to moderate income families are welcome to visit the Resource Center for seeds, plants and tool lending.

2024 community garden expectations

Maintain your plot.

  • Make sure you can dedicate an average of 2 – 4 hours each week to maintain your plot from opening until Oct. 20.
  • Plant your garden by June 1. If a plot is not planted by June 1 or is left untended for longer than two weeks during the season, it will be reassigned. Please reach out to Garden Project if you need help planning or maintaining your plot!
  • Keep your garden plot and its bordering pathways free from weeds, trash and piles.
  • Harvest in a timely manner. Ripe produce left in the garden may be donated to avoid spoilage and waste.
  • Weed and maintain your plot until Oct. 20.
  • At the end of the season, remove all string, stakes, fencing and trash.
  • Please note: Gardeners who abandon their plots during the season or who fail to properly clean up their plots by the Oct. 20 deadline will be assessed a $50 fine per plot and will be restricted to one garden plot the following season.

Respect other gardeners and garden plots. Support your community garden.

  • Do not walk through other plots or harvest from them without permission. Garden theft will result in an immediate loss of gardening privileges for the current and all future seasons.
  • Please report vandalism, theft or unusual behavior to garden leadership committee members.
  • Return all borrowed tools in a timely manner.
  • The use of garden chemicals is discouraged.
  • Service dogs are permitted, but please do not bring pets into the garden.
  • Cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs, including marijuana, are prohibited in the garden.
  • Follow rules specific to your garden.
  • Participate in group workdays and other garden management tasks as needed. Remember, we all have a role to play to help our community gardens thrive!

Pay your plot fees.

  • Plot fees are expected to be paid when the plot is assigned and must be paid no later than June 15.
