
Garden Project partners with more than 90 community gardens throughout mid-Michigan, each with its own unique personality. Some integrate school curricula, some grow for donation and others are simply neighborhood gathering spaces to grow a stronger community.

Eaton Rapids High School Garden

This program provides a wonderful opportunity for students to grow herbs and vegetables to be enjoyed by their fellow students. Food is grown in four hydroponic towers as well as two greenhouse raised beds and is used in the high school cafeteria in popular dishes such as basil pizza and fresh garden salads.

Harvest at AL!VE Garden

Harvest is a “pizza garden” located in the Preserve at AL!VE health park. The garden was created by Washington Elementary and funded by the ‘Fuel up to Play 60’ program. Elementary students help grow and harvest vegetables needed for pizza sauce and healthy pizza toppings. Future plans include additional growing space for other schools.

This Ingham County Land Bank garden, established in 2020, is dedicated to bringing the community together in love for one another, young and old. There are six raised bed gardens for individual use plus space for growing food to donate to those in need.
Letts Community Garden

Established in 2006, Letts Garden is located in Lansing’s westside neighborhood on Lansing Parks & Recreation land. This garden has a dozen community plots, a communal herb and berry area and a fully stocked tool shed. Plots are first come, first served and go quickly.
Lilac Community Garden

Established in 1980, Lilac hosts a diversity of vegetable plants and gardeners from various countries. Gardeners are able to utilize effective electric fencing as well as a water storage and delivery system. Because it sits just off the banks of the Red Cedar, the soil stays quite wet into the spring, so gardeners have the choice of waiting for soil conditions to dry out enough to use a tractor service or they can elect to till the ground themselves. In 2011, GLFB Garden Project purchased a tiller to keep on-site at Lilac for use by trained gardeners. Land use is provided by Michigan State University. Personal fencing is encouraged due to strong deer pressure.
Marsh Pointe Community Garden

Established in 2010, this is a community garden with grow-your-own plots and a significant donation function. The land is owned by the City of Mason. The garden, through an agreement with the City of Mason, provides an opportunity for residents of the city to grow their own produce, free of pesticides and chemicals, for their families and friends, and to donate if they wish to the Mason Food Bank. In addition, they dedicate 6 or more plots to grow produce specifically for the Mason Food Bank.

Please note that because this garden is located on public school property, access to the garden during the school year is allowed before 7 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and anytime during the weekend. When school is not in session, there are no restrictions.
Old Oakland Community Garden

Established in 2012, this garden provides a welcoming space for residents of the Old Oakland Neighborhood to grow collectively in four raised beds. There are plans for additional raised beds to be added and for the garden to be converted to a “grow your own” model. This garden is open to all and welcomes new gardeners and volunteers.
