In early 2019, GLFB was connected with the principals at the two elementary schools in Harrison, MI. These two schools have a total of 684 students, the majority of whom are enrolled in Free and Reduced lunch. Due to lack of funding, only 26 of these students were able to receive a weekend backpack of food once a month. GLFB immediately answered the call and sent backpacks to all of the 684 Harrison, MI elementary students for the remaining months of the 18/19 school year. In June 2019, 316 additional backpacks were sent to Harrison Middle School.

  

Get Involved

Thanks to the support from Clare County Community Foundation and Red Nose day as well as generous additional commitments from our community, GLFB will be able to continue providing backpacks to all K-8 students in Harrison, MI for the entire 19/20 school year. Additional support for this program will allow further expansion to other districts in the county who need access to food. Funding for the We Serve Kids Program™ has an immediate, measurable impact in the lives of those most vulnerable – our children.
