Greater Lansing Food Bank’s work getting food to more than 16,900 mid-Michigan households each month wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and hard work of our volunteers.
Whether you’re sorting and packing food in our warehouse, delivering Weekend Kits for kids, distributing food through a Mobile Food Pantry or helping gardeners with Garden Project, we appreciate you.
Ralph Sims
September 2024 Volunteer of the Month
Ralph Sims (pictured second from left) has been volunteering with GLFB regularly on Fridays with his friend, Frank, for the last five years.
Ralph and Frank drive to the food bank together and help pack boxes for the Tri-County Office of Aging that are distributed every Friday.
“I love the feeling that I’m helping my neighbors and community,” Sims said. “It’s fun and there is definitely a need out there.”
He typically volunteers in the warehouse and enjoys working with fellow volunteers and staff. Sims has also done gleaning and volunteered at mobile food pantries.
When he’s not volunteering, Ralph enjoys learning about history and the Civil War, and also enjoys being involved with public television and radio and community theater.
