Community Garden Tour highlights growing array of local gardens

On July 25, the Garden Project hosted its annual Community Garden Tour. Starting at the Resource Center, participants had the choice of viewing the impressive display of gardens by foot, bike or bus.

Community gardens have been a mission of the Garden Project since it started more than 30 years ago. Recently, there have been more gardens to visit. Five years ago, there were 25 gardens in the network; today, it’s close to 100 and serving an estimated 7,000 people

“Self-help and sustainability have been our mission for 33 years,” says Alex Bryan, Garden Project manager. “By helping people grow their own food, we can achieve that goal. The tour is a great way for the community to be proud of itself and the great strides we’ve taken here.”
